Martin is one of our board members at Addington Net; he came to Christchurch from England with a B.A. (Hons) in 3D design along with experience in the construction industry and an impressive background in digital media traing and production. Since arriving in New Zealand seven years ago he's continued to develop skills in web design, graphics, photography, training and project management.
Martin founded and runs Digimojo.net making stylish web sites with graphics and photos he produces himself.
The Christchurch earthquake has brought together some of Martin's existing skills and added some new ones during what has become a very busy time for him. He's been involved with a number of post-quake initiatives, including a community radio station in New Brighton (set up after the February quake) TEDxEQChCh, Volunteering Canterbury, Ideas Into Actions and Rebuild Christchurch.
Martin has built some some web sites that have arisen as a direct result of the earthquakes, such as Co-operative Sections, and helped out on the post-quake business directory, Made in Christchurch. He is currently working on a project he and his business partners are involved in; exploring innovative ways people and businesses can be safely and sustainably re-housed using shipping containers and modern prefabricated construction techniques. February's earthquake, which has displaced so many people, has now raised the priority of this project.
Martin's post-quake photographs have seen international usage which he largely attributes to making them available under a permissive Creative Commons licence so they can be reproduced world-wide, in any context.
On a more personal note, Martin and his wife Kate are founding members of the Kalpa Bhadra Buddhist Centre, He still sometimes teaches meditation there and at a few other venues around the city.
